The Eco and Green Group

This group's work is to discuss and decide on 'Green' matters and Sustainability and how the school as a community contributes to being Eco-friendly.

RECYCLE

  • We recycle paper, card, small plastic milk bottles, pieces of plastic and anything that can be recycled

  • We promote recycling as a school.

  • We recycle food waste at playtime and at lunch time.

RE-USE

  • We re-use scrap paper.

  • We welcome used and old unwanted school uniform that children have out-grown.

  • We welcome old un-used PE clothes that are no longer used (T-shirts and shorts). These will be available for use by children who forget their PE kits - so that no-one misses out.

  • We promote that the local community recylces old unwanted clothes etc by filling the TYDDYN MON Clothes Bank on site. This is filled often and we are amongst Tyddyn Mon's most used recycling points.

REDUCE

  • We're keen to cut down on energy use by switching things off before leaving rooms.

  • The lighting system installed senses movement and switches off after a while.

  • The clssrooms ceiling has been lowered to improve the lighting and to concerve warmth.

  • The school's heating is set on timers and new more efficient boliers have been installed.

  • Temperature sensors are located in classrooms that sense whether or not the heaters need to work or not.

  • Hand dryers are installed to lessen our use of paper towels.

  • Some members of staff share lifts to and from school.

  • If possible, we share buses with other schools to attend local activities.

School Fruit Shop

The children wanted a Fruit Shop. It has been available for several years now and is run daily by Year 6 pupils.

These are RHIANNON's words (Y6):

"The Fruit Shop will be open at the beginning of the morning playtime break at 10.30am  and stays open between 5-8 minutes so that everyone who wants to buy fruit gets to do so. Each item of fruit is 20p. Children can pay £1 at the start of the week for the full week.

The choice of fruits are bananas, apples and raisins.

The School Council discusses what items of fruit are offered.

Two different pupils from Year 6 pair up to run the shop for the week.

Thank you."

Sports and Breaktime Ambassadors

The Sports Ambassadors for 2019 / 2020 are Efa and Aaron (Y6).

Cycling Lessons

Every year, Year 5 and 6 pupils have cycling lessons through Anglesey County Council Highways Dept. Everyone must wear their own safety helmet for these lessons. Is everyone's bike safe and roadworthy? The lessons teach everyone what needs attention on the bike.

URDD SPORTS CLUB

The Urdd offer a series of MIXED SPORTS sessions open to everyone from Year 1 through to Year 6. When these sessions are on offer, they're held after school on Monday 3.30 - 4.30pm. Please note the Urdd ask for £1.50 per session to take part. It is Anglesey's Urdd Sport Dept who run this club.
